JOB TITLE: Transportation Supervisor

SUMMARY: The Transportation Supervisor assists the Director of Transportation to ensure that department work goals are met; services are provided in an efficient and effective manner; ensures that staff utilizes appropriate procedures and safe practices; provides overall coverage of the transportation services; and ensures optimal utilization of personnel and other resources
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Previous experience in transportation operations
- CDL certification
- Experienced in supervisory responsibility and the ability to skillfully manage people
- Knowledge of bus maintenance, driver training, and scheduling
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA degree in a supervisory or management related field of study OR
- Five (5) years experience in operations of transportation services

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the Director of Transportation in supervision of transportation personnel and ensure that department work is completed.
- Supervises and has direct oversite of transportation coordinators.
- Manages transportation department technology solutions.
- Assists other administrative personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Attends various meetings for the purpose of addressing campus transportation needs, as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
- Conducts accident investigations, prepares and submits accident reports for the purpose of notifying appropriate law enforcement and insurance agencies.
- Assists in coordinating student transportation activities, as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
- Determines work priorities for the purpose of ensuring services are performed timely and effectively at designated sites.
- Evaluates personnel for the purpose of ensuring that standards are achieved and performance is maximized.
- Inspects repair work, projects, equipment, work orders, daily maintenance and supplies for the purpose of ensuring that jobs are completed efficiently and within local/state/federal regulations.
- Maintains radio contact with buses (e.g. after hours support, weekends and holidays) for the purpose of ensuring quick response in the event of a mechanical breakdown or emergency situation.
- Participates in meetings with unit school principals and/or assistant principals for the purpose of identifying campus transportation needs, as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
- Performs the bus driver duties as required for the purpose of providing adequate coverage.
- Prepares various documents (e.g. budgets, requisitions, time studies, productivity, evaluation reports, pre-trip checklists, bus driver handbooks, etc.) for the purpose of providing necessary information to state/federal agencies and appropriate district personnel and/or developing contract specifications.
- Provides job related training opportunities for drivers, bus aides, mechanics and/or crossing guards for the purpose of ensuring their job success and compliance with legal mandates.
- Recommends new hires, promotions, terminations and transfers for the purpose of maintaining appropriate staffing and productivity of the work force.
- Researches new products, laws, regulations, etc. for the purpose of recommending purchases, contracts, maintaining district wide services, and determining impact on district.
- Perform such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret education materials and programs; ability to write reports, procedure manuals, and correspondence; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers, students, administration, and the community.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical such as probability and statistical inference; ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
