Job Title:  Middle School Teacher Mentor

REPORTS TO:  Director of Curriculum & Innovation

POSITION LEVEL:                                                           

 

SUMMARY:   Support beginning and evolving teachers with resources, information, and strategies to strengthen their effectiveness in the classroom.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years teaching experience minimum

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree or BA+, and Reading Endorsement or Math approved area
  • Various grade level experience
  • Experience working with English Language Learners
  • Cognitive coaching or other coaching models
  • Demonstrate knowledge in curriculum, instruction, and assessments
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communications and presentation skills
  • Skilled at working with others in a professional learning environment, including mentoring teachers and modeling effective teaching practices
  • Self-starter with strong organization and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide meaningful, ongoing support with beginning and evolving teachers by meeting regularly to help plan, provide resources, and model pedagogical approaches and classroom management.
  2. Familiarize teachers with district wide initiatives and systems
  3. Facilitate New Teacher workshops
  4. Coordinate and accompany new teacher visits to master teacher classrooms
  5. Partnership with Principal and leadership team to support new teachers
  6. Participate in Professional Development of District wide initiatives and systems
  7. Attend training required by Arizona New Teacher Initiative
  8. Willing to accept constructive feedback and reflect on professional practice and implement change                when necessary
  9. Perform such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the                          Superintendent/Designee

 

 

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provision of the Board policy or evaluation of professional personnel. 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret education materials and programs; ability to write reports, procedure manuals, and correspondence; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers, students, administration, and the community.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: 

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference; ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
