Job Title:  Individualized Education Plan Writer/ Facilitator

REPORTS TO:  Director for Exceptional  Student Services / Designee

SUMMARY:  

Under the direction of the ESS Director or designee and in collaboration with IEP teams, the ESS/Individualized Education Plan Writer plans, coordinates, and writes in compliance of the IDEA for students with disabilities in accordance with a student’s Individual Education Program (IEP). The IEP Writer/Facilitator will assist in: creating and managing a campus universal meeting schedule for IEPs/METs and meeting compliance parameters between the site and district office. Coordinates testing schedule as part of a testing team for annual and tri-annual purposes. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA in Special Education
  • Arizona certification in Special Education
  • Demonstrate success with researched based interventions and curriculum modification or adaptation
  • Skilled at working with others in a professional learning environment
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrate skill with Microsoft office

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in Special Education or related field
  • Three years of experience of highly proficient case management including teaching in itinerant and/or resource settings, coordination and management of services for caseloads, highly effective evidence of understanding the components of the Individualized Education Plan and the cycle of the plan to include evaluations 
  • Demonstrates an understanding of federal, state, and local mandates governing the determination and delivery of special education services
  • Experience completing observations and reports pertaining to the learning behaviors of students
  • Successful teaching experience at various grade levels

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides coordination for special education services including the development of IEPs, and coordination of referrals to outside resources.
  2. Holds appropriate pre-conference committee meetings to assist in developing measurable goals, benchmarks, and objectives to meet students’ needs.
  3. Primary author of the Individualized Education Plans in collaboration with IEP team members.
  4. Regularly monitors the implementation of the student’s IEP and progress reports to the IEP Team.
  5. Clearly communicates student’s IEP accommodations to general education team members.
  6. Monitors and communicates the implementation of accommodations and modifications with general education staff.
  7. Provides support by working closely, and maintaining open communication with leadership, team members, parents, and students to support student success.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Skills required, but not limited to, for this position include:

  • Ability to co-facilitate IEP meetings with administrative designees
  • Ability to interpret and apply special education law, policies and procedures and provide information to school staff
  • In-depth understanding of special education teaching methods and techniques relative to IEP writing
  • Well-developed understanding of the special education process

 

EVALUATION:  At least once annually in accordance with Governing Board Policy

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret education materials and programs.  Ability to write reports, procedure manuals, and correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers, students, administration, and the community.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to work with mathematical such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
