SUMMARY:  To create a flexible program favorable to leaning and personal growth for the student in the least restrictive environment.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Instructional Assistant

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Arizona Special Education Certificate with appropriate endorsement
  • Early Childhood Certification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree In Special Education 

Such alternatives to the above required & preferred qualifications as the Superintendent/Designee may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conduct appropriate academic evaluations; develop, implement and monitor appropriate academic/behavior individual education plans (IEP’s).
  2. Maintain accurate records for documentation of student progress.
  3. Participate in the MET process.
  4. Plan, conduct and/or participate in inservice activities.
  5. Maintain on-going communication (verbal and written) with parents of special education students.
  6. Direct activities of instructional assistants.
  7. Participate in preschool screenings.
  8. Provide performance evaluation input regarding special education instructional assistant(s) to school administrator.
  9. Perform other related tasks as may be assigned by the building principal and/or director of Pupil Services.
  10. Maintain DHS instructor requirements.
  11. Attend all necessary trainings and department meetings.
  12. Perform such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee.

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provision of the Board policy or evaluation of professional personnel. 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret education materials and programs.  Ability to write reports, procedure manuals, and correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers, students, administration, and the community.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: 

Ability to work with mathematical such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY: 

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
